friday, friday, friday

I’m not sure why, but I woke up feeling better about my otherwise crappy week this morning.  I think it’s just because it’s Friday – if I can just get through the work day, all will be good.  I’m starting my weekend off right with a little happy hour with my girls, and then dessert club.  What better way to start a wonderful weekend at home?!

If only I could wake up tomorrow morning and have breakfast out here…

Wouldn’t that be lovely?  What an inspiring and relaxing space…  imagine if there was a pool just beyond that patio, with slate or travertine tiles surrounding it.  Oasis, pure and simple.  Have a wonderful weekend, all!

too much color?

I put on a lot of color today when dressing for work.  Several people pointed out that I have worn green all week so far, so I thought it was time to change it up.  I think I may have gone a little overboard.  I can’t do anything about it now!

single dress, h&m sweater, j.crew necklace, target wedges

On another note, I finally got my aviators back and I am so happy to wear them on a sunny day.

crafty weekend

I have big plans for the weekend…  well, not HUGE plans, but a few things that I want to do.  My husband will be in Puerto Rico visiting a friend and while he gets to go to beautiful beaches there, I can go to a regular beach.  My mom and sister are coming up for a bit of the weekend for some beach time, but otherwise, I will have some time to complete some projects.  One of those projects will be creating a new wreath for our front door.   The hubs basically despises the one we have, and I don’t have a good one for late spring/summer.  So, I’ll make one.

I found this beauty on Pinterest, so I’m going to attempt to make it.  A “R” may be a bit more difficult because of the curves…  but I think it should still be easy enough.  Along with that, tearing out pages in old magazines and possibly doing some touch-up paint around the house, I think I’ll be more than busy enough.

easy breezy

While shopping last weekend, this J.Crew blouson dress caught my eye.  It’s so easy, it’s almost a neutral – you could wear this dress so many ways and with so many different accessories.  I haven’t shown it with a belt here, but that is the first change I would make for the next wear.  The Rebecca Minkoff mini m.a.c. clutch is the perfect color to play off the dress and the other accessories fall very easily into place after that.

{Blouson Dress in Stripe, $148, J.Crew} {Mini M.A.C. clutch, $195, Rebecca Minkoff} {Alexis Bittar Satin Dust Bracelets, $195 each, Nordstrom}

{France Leather Flat Sandal, $63.63, Asos} {Untitled (Cloudscape) iPhone Cover, $35, Society 6}

By the way, how cute is that iPhone case?  Not your style?  Head over to Society 6…  they have 1740 PAGES of iPhone covers to choose from.  The same artwork used as the iPhone case can also be purchased in canvases, prints, etc.

what’s old is new…

It’s easy to go on and on about how certain fashion re-emerge over time.  Some that I can think of right now are skinny pants (per the 50s and 60s), maxi skirts (per the 70s), neon (per the 80s), printed pants (per the 90s), and belly shirts (per the 90s/2000s).  There are inevitably shoes that follow along with the same clothing patterns…  platforms, wedges, canvas sneakers, strappy sandals, etc.  I can forgive all of those shoe trends, and not necessarily partake in the ones that I don’t agree with (canvas flats = keds = not for Lisa).

Some that I cannot get over and refuse to believe are making a comeback are Birkenstocks.  Yes, they have always been around and probably popular, but not necessarily for the fashion-seeker.  I have seen them on several online fashion retailers as of late and their debut on Anthropologie put me over the edge!  I will admit to wearing them in middle school (probably with umbros and a t-shirt (sad), or a dress (cute?!)), and it wasn’t good then.  I will not give in to this (what I hope is not a) trend.

What do you think about Birkenstocks making a comeback?

Yikes!

party friday!

As we prepare to head to a wedding of a dear friend this weekend, all I can think about is that it’s almost here…  what’s almost here?  The time to party!  Earlier in the week, at a dinner with my girlfriends, we had a discussion about our monthly dessert club…  whose turn it was, and when it would be.  Why not this weekend, right?  Start the weekend with a party, and end with a different kind of party.

One of the last times I hosted dessert club, I built a menu around Italian Wedding cake.  I made a cinnamon cake with cannoli filling (which is one of my favorite things in the whole world).

To make it pretty, I covered the mini-cakes with fondant, another favorite.

The mini-cakes made my thoughts turn to mini-everything, so we had a mini-Italian feast.  I made a huge caprese salad with fresh tomato, basil, mozarella and olive oil.  To complement, I added some small turkey meatballs.  Lastly, I made some mini pizzas.  I made the dough, sauteed some onion and tomato, and added the toppings to the dough with some cheese.

Finally, I set the table.  I spent so much time on the food that I ran out of time for the table.  But, even some easy flowers and colored napkins can transform a table.

Dessert Club is a rare treat for me to host.  There are few things I love more than planning a party, cooking for it, and decorating a table (or two).  I can’t wait until it’s my turn next…  until then, I’ll happy attend when my friends host, and enjoy every second of it!  What’s not to like about good food and good friends?

thursday tunes

Hi! We’re having such a beautiful Spring here in Californ-i-a, and I hope you’re having a pretty one, too.

I think this song by The Zombies is pretty perfect to listen to on a sunny afternoon. I hope you enjoy it!

wow. jose villa.

I still read MANY wedding blogs, even though I married my husband almost five years ago.  I’m constantly inspired by the beauty that weddings embody these days, and the creativity employed to make them that way.  My favorite wedding blogs are 100 Layer Cake, Style Me Pretty and Once Wed.

I don’t know why, but I had weddings on my mind today.   I was looking through real weddings on Once Wed, and came across this beauty, photographed by Jose Villa.

He obviously captures the beauty of a wedding so completely…  even when it’s just pictures of tablescapes.  And oh!  The talent and creativity behind some of the weddings he has shot are just incredible.  I first heard of him when he photographed the wedding of Erin, of Apartment #34.  Since then, I have kept tabs on the weddings he photographs.  Below is the bride from one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen…  I’m sure it was gorgeous in person, but Jose Villa just captures it all so perfectly.

By the way, you can refine the search for real weddings on Once Wed by colors AND by theme.  How helpful is that?

pre-easter feast!

Every time we head to Orlando to visit our families, my husband wants to go one place – 4Rivers BBQ.  I’m not a huge BBQ fan, but I will make an exception for this place.  I love that they don’t take themselves too seriously – when there wasn’t a meat I wanted, the guy taking the orders said, “what about a cheese and bbq sauce quesadilla done on the grill?”  Um, yes.  It was fantastic.

In general what’s not to love about a huge selection of food, including fantastic side items and an entire sweet shop?!

Laurie’s “vegetarian” meal – lots ‘o sides!

best. soda. case. ever.  yes, those are all sodas.

just a few of the sweet selections.  coca cola & potato chip cupcake?  sure.  there was also a grape soda & nerd cupcake (not pictured).

strangest, yet I have to admit, intriguing dessert option…  thoughts?

this cake had a full sheet of chocolate wrapped around the outside of it, before it was cut.

Even though I pre-browsed the sweet shop, I was too full to indulge.  The next time we go home, I’m going to strictly eat dessert.  I didn’t even show you the delicious ice cream, milk shake and cookie options…   Go to 4Rivers, you won’t regret it!
